The Role of the First Lady

The Role of the First Lady
Date: Tuesday, October 20, 2009
Time: 7:00-9:00 pm
Location: THH 102

ACA invites you to join in on our first panel discussion of the year, talking about an often overlooked yet extremely influential political position - the First Lady.

We scrutinize Michelle Obama's hair and clothes, but does anyone know what exactly she does? What does the First Lady accomplish, and by what means? Is the role obsolete/extraneous in this day and age? Does the first lady’s somewhat “domestic” responsibilities (i.e. planning parties, entertaining important guests etc.) send a positive or negative message to today’s women about their potential?

Joining us are Professor Dan Schnur, the director of the Unruh Institute of Politics at USC, and Professor Alison Renteln, Professor of Political Science, as well as POIR Ph.D. candidate Parker Hevron moderating.

As always, there will be a FREE delicious dinner catered by Viztangos!
