Are you interested in working with some of Los Angeles' underprivileged children? We need YOU! A program of USC's psychology department and sponsored in part by Student Senate's Philanthropy Fund, the "Youth Education Program: Going for the Goal," might be for you. Sponsored by USC's professor of psychology, Dr. Margaret Gatz, the Goal program will allow you to spend one hour a week for a period of 9 weeks, helping middle school students to realize their potential and eventually their dreams.
For over a decade, the Going for the Goal program has matched USC students with groups of middle school students throughout the Southern California area. Most recently, Going for the Goal has enjoyed a successful and lasting partnership with nearby St. Vincent's School. Here you will be working with sixth grade students who are particularly in need of your instruction and inspiration in order to realize their true potential. Assigned to a group of 6-8 students, you and your volunteer partner will use Leadership Manuals and various props to convey each goal oriented lesson to your students. You are not alone, however, with a Senior Volunteer acting as a supervisor during each lesson. Over the course of Goal's 9 week session I am sure that you will find yourself very glad that you were able to spend each week helping these wonderful students toward their goals.
