Although summer is very nearly here, the Edmands Lab still has an
opening for a highly motivated undergraduate student to participate in
research in marine ecological genetics during Summer 2010. The chosen
student would develop a project related to our ongoing work on the
genetic basis for resistance to environmental pollutants in the
copepod Tigriopus californicus. This is a full‑time, approximately
12‑week research internship (exact dates negotiable). The position is
funded by an NSF REU Supplement Award and includes a $4400 stipend
plus a $1500 subsistence allowance.
Applicants should have a strong interest in marine biology, genetics
and/or evolution. Prior research experience is desirable but not
required. REU positions are available to U.S. citizens or permanent
residents who are currently enrolled as undergraduates at U.S.
colleges or universities. Students from underrepresented groups are
strongly encouraged to apply. Sorry, seniors graduating in May 2010
are not eligible.
Applicants should send an electronic cover letter and resume,
including contact information for three references and preferred
starting date (earlier in May is better), to Suzanne Edmands
(sedmands@usc.edu). Applications will be accepted until the position
is filled.
