Campus Squirrels of the West

My name is Erin Banks Rusby and I am a biology student at Willamette
University in Salem, Oregon. I am currently conducting a research project
in cooperation with Dr. David P. Craig to categorize species of squirrels
living in the western North America with a particular interest in tree
squirrels on or near college campuses.  Our project is called SCIURUS
(Scientific Collaborations in Undergraduate Research to Understand
Squirrels). SCIURUS was born as a ‘model’ science society for introductory
biology students to practice acting like a professional research
biologists and to share insights about the lives of squirrels.

The overall aim of the project is to see what kinds of squirrels can be
found in the historical habitat of the native Western Gray Squirrel as
well as to understand the dynamics of range changes among introduced tree
squirrels, i.e. Eastern Gray Squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) and Fox
Squirrel (Sciurus niger). We are interested in coordinating a peer-to-peer
photo-sharing project among college campuses in the West using a group
pool we organized in Flickr called Campus Squirrels of the West

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.  Thanks for your help!
