Spring Internships with the Sierra Club at USC

What?: The Sierra Club’s Campuses Beyond Coal campaign is looking for student interns on campus this Spring. Internships will provide students with valuable experience with grassroots organizing and environmental advocacy. Internship areas may include, but are not limited to: media relations, community organizing, grassroots campaigning, coalition building, and communications.

Responsibilities: Duties may include, but are not limited to: writing for and communicating with media, petitioning, phone-banking, environmental advocacy, leadership development, faculty outreach, administration outreach, alumni outreach, and event planning. Interns typically work 10-12 hours a week, and the level of commitment can be tailored to your schedule. Class credit possible.

About the Campaign: The Campuses Beyond Coal Campaign is a national effort taking place on over 30 campuses nationwide to take college campuses off of dirty coal energy and move them toward renewable forms of energy such as wind, solar, and sustainable biomass. Mining coal and burning coal to generate power is a terribly destructive process. Coal fired power plants emit over 30% of our nation’s carbon dioxide pollution, as well as toxic chemicals that have been linked to increased incidences of asthma and autism. So we’re working to phase out coal—we need to stop mining it and stop using it to generate power. Now is the time to act! This Spring, we’re working to phase out coal in our school’s power supply and replace it with 100% clean energy sources by building a campus-wide movement that will show support for the transition and help our school show its leadership on clean energy initiatives.
