Looking for somewhere to go over Spring Break?
Make a difference in the lives of impoverished rural Hondurans by providing sustainable health care solutions
Public Health Brigades is passionate students coming together in purposeful action to make a tangible difference in the lives of families in rural Honduras. Over spring break, you will work with a group of your fellow USC students directly alongside local Honduran families – fathers, grandmothers, cousins, even children – to implement immediate and sustainable solutions to some of their worst health problems.
The need is great. For example, 7-11 million people in Latin America are presently infected with Chagas disease. This potentially fatal disease is spread through insects that burrow in the ground. In many Honduran communities, children live in homes with bare dirt floors. Even more deadly, every year diarrheal disease kills some 4.5 million children worldwide, simply due to poor sanitary conditions. Many Honduran families lack even a simple latrine. These are only some of the issues we will address.
The solutions are simple. Through community health education and hands-on construction work in the homes of these families, you have the opportunity to drastically improve their quality of life. This is for anyone who is interested in public health, international development, or just experiencing Central America first hand. We need everyone regardless of their Spanish abilities.
