USC Premedical Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association, or USC Premed APAMSA, is a pre-medical student organization at USC that strives to address health issues that are more prevalent among Asian Pacific Americans by holding Bone Marrow drives and Hepatitis B awareness events. We also provide students with hands-on, first-hand experience in and exposure to medical-related careers in order to help further their interest in medicine or help them decide whether medicine is for them.
As mentioned, in order to explore the more cultural aspects of the club, we have planned for the following events throughout the year:
- Bone Marrow Drives
- Hepatitis B screenings in the community
- Participation in local Health Fairs
- Trips to the new Blood Donor Center at the UV
- Guest speaker presentations on Asian medical practices and homeopathic medicine
In order to provide our members with hands-on, interactive experiences to become more involved pre-med students, we have planned for:
- Shadowing medical students
- Debates on controversial medical topics such as medical ethics and healthcare reform
- Volunteering events at the LA Orthopedic Hospital
- General meetings discussing admissions to medical school and four-year plans
Our first general meeting is on Wednesday September 8th, 2010 at 6 pm in TCC 432.
