Spring 2011 Course Spotlight—BISC 369: Ecology and Natural History of California

Lecture TuTh 2-3:20; Lab Tu 3:30-6:20

Professor Bakus teaches this field course with collections of the biota from terrestrial, freshwater, and marine habitats. Fieldtrips include visits to Santa Catalina Island (weekend), Palos Verdes Peninsula, Aquarium of the Pacific (Long Beach), Big Bear Lake & Mojave Desert, and Mt. Pinos (hike to the subalpine summit).  Lectures and readings cover biology, ecology, geology, climate, geography, and collecting techniques. A research project of your choice is included.  This has been a very popular class in biology for students who like outdoor activities.
